Hey, all -- while I was searching for movies/TV shows in the same vein as the Donald Strachey Mysteries (didn't find any), I came across a TV series (London Spy) that was on a streaming service I've never heard of before, called Xumo Play. And guess what I found while I was browsing?

Broadchurch! Back when I watched it a year or so ago, I could only see the first season (without paying for Britbox). Now this site has all three! I'm very happy to have stumbled across it. Can't wait to watch the rest of it.

Summary: As Sonny fights for his life after being shot, Rico tries to deal with his emotions on his own. Trudy isn’t having it.
Notes: 1. It struck me that Trudy stayed close to Rico during “A Bullet for Crockett,” and they had that lovely mutual comfort scene. I’ve been wanting to do something with Rico and Trudy for a while now, so this was born. I can’t lie; it didn’t turn out the way I’d planned. It turned out the way it wanted to.
2. I probably took some liberties with the timeline of the episode, for story purposes.
3. Wicked Game came on Spotify while I was writing this, the words were perfect, and it’s almost the right year, 1989.

+ Now there's daylight again and I've riffled through it plenty, here's my favorite cards from the Curious Travels Tarot.

You can't at all see the pearlescent shimmer the cardstock is infused with, but it is beautiful. Also this is a Claudia deck to me (I am not responsible for the connections my blender brain makes when I have a hyper fixation).

Spent last night going through my decks and if I see the opportunity to do so locally, there's a bunch of oracles and one tarot that just didn't work for me and I'd love to rehome. Very grumpy the one alternative shop that opened in town barely lasted a few months. Flip side my wish list has grown massive, and with some very much not mass market wants. Especially the Motherwitch Oracle, and both Wisdom of the Divine Feminine/Wisdom of the Shadow + workbook, and the Reclaim Oracle seems to align strongly with the kind of work I'd like to do.

For tarot decks there's less than a handful of strong wants, but it's not like my current decks can't cover that need. I'm really just being greedy there. (gotta keep reminding myself of that: girl your needs are MET). But also, so many fandom decks are happening. The Dune one already ambushed me.

The internet is worthless these days, except for mindless entertainment (nothing wrong with that, as long as you realize it). I remember when a search engine gave me an answer I knew was a lie, so I told it it was lying. It immediately said the opposite of what it did the first time.

Here's another example. Try to find out what color eyes an actor really has. In this case, I use Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. Well, every website says something different. Green, blue, hazel -- some even say red and black! They just make up shit. That they both have green eyes seems to be a popular take, but going from how rare green eyes are... I find it hard to believe that, coincidentally, both stars of a series would have green eyes. (I'm not good at being able to tell eye color unless they are very obviously blue or brown).

Height is another hysterical one. PMT is anywhere from 5'7 to 6'6!! Each website says something different. Same for Don. Maybe they just can't do the math conversions? 😁😂🤣 Now, I do know neither of them is especially tall (which I love). I'm willing to believe Wiki.

And have a vid I just found. OMG. I have a head-canon that Sonny immediately drops his pants when Rico starts singing this. I know I want to! 😉 PMT really does have a beautiful voice. The video is a bit dumb too, but it's pretty.

+ There's a fun YouTube telethon/donation drive beginning in 4 and a half hours I'm strongly considering staying up for.

Why watch the State of the Union, when you could watch your favorite unhinged Bluesky posters share their weird hobbies, niche obsessions, and scorching hot takes?
(streamed here and I'm assuming directly on yt but couldn't find the link)

It's at 2.30 for me, but my sleep schedule is kind of fucked atm anyways. If I watch this and then just get up early, there's a chance I can flip it.

+ Curious Travels Tarot arrived today, and I don't think I've ever handled a deck that felt this good. I'm astounded this is mass market, it's so buttery smooth but textured at the same time; a joy to hold. I just keep fondling the cards lol.

+ In other things that bring joy: I started watching Starfleet Academy and it is full of precious characters whose faces I'd like to smoosh and keep safe forever. A bit heavy on the For Teens stuff, and sadly one character has been heavily relegated to The Girl category which I am extremely bored by, but otherwise excellent faces and much invading of personal space yay.

Writing it such a fascinating process. Like, I'm riveted to this scene playing out -- I have no idea how it's going to end.

When I began writing, I intended it to be a Rico/Trudy fic that was consummated. I had a very clear idea of what would happen. It was going to be sweet and poignant.

Then, the characters had to put emotions and motivations into the process. Now, it's a battle of will they or won't they. Who knows?! Trudy is willing, and her reasons are touching and sweet. Rico is being Mr. Moral, coming up with reasons why they shouldn't.

So, the jury is still out. I have no idea who is going to win. I just know that Rico is a twenty-first century guy living in the twentieth century. I've noticed that in previous fics. I have no idea why, but I let the characters be who they tell me they are, so. Is it something I'm picking up on in canon? Going by the way he is with Valerie, I'd be doubtful, but I write on instinct and I won't force myself to go against my instincts.

PSA: The Donald Strachey movie, On the Other Hand, Death, is currently available for purchase from Amazon for $4.99 (I think the SD version is $2.99). They are also available to those who have Here TV.

I bought Ice Blues on sale a year ago, and I was thinking about the movies tonight, so I thought I'd check. They are so good! If you like film noir style, detective stories, with LGBTQ+ characters and themes, and an adorable ship, these will not disappoint!

It was especially amusing as I was getting some Sonny/Rico vibes from Don and Tim. LOL. Just a couple of little things (they aren't really anything alike). I think it was the 'married couple' vibes, and how well they know each other. I don't know why. Maybe extrapolation. I think this is very much how Sonny and Rico will be together in my future fic where they are an established couple.

But Don and Tim are so wonderful together. You shouldn't miss them!

One of these days, I'm going to give the books a try...

I have a confession.

I am obsessed with Rico Tubbs. It's like Ianto Jones all over again. I think I need an intervention. 😁😂🤣😉

I'm feeling guilty. Yes, I am watching an episode with tons of Sonny tragedy/angst and thinking, poor Rico! Forgive me, Sonny fans, I can't help myself. It's not that I don't love Sonny -- and I do see them as a matched set! Maybe I'll be better tomorrow. Things are just kinda rough right now.

I know Rico has his Issues, too. I do. He's not perfect either. I just can't help myself. I didn't expect it, it just hit me out of the blue. Like Ianto (at least Rico doesn't die -- thank God!!).

Maybe it'll get better after the shit ton of Rico Angst coming up in the next three episodes. Hopefully there won't be so much horror to go through after that... And then, once I'm done with the Horrible Angst Seasons, I can start over again and enjoy the "fun" stuff again (fun being a relative term, but compared to the fourth and fifth season, the first two are a honeymoon in paradise. I normally don't have a favorite like this, so I'm fighting it. I really think things will get better when I'm finished with the last season.

Look at my happy baby! When Rico's happy, I'm happy.

I just gave Rico his own tag. The only characters who have their own tags besides him are Ianto and James T. Kirk.

But the finale of Good Omens IS coming up on May 13th, so that might turn out to be a good thing. I might need the distraction.
